Air brake status available in an instant with new monitoring device
Guelph, Ontario, March 18th, 2008
NBS Innovative Solutions Ltd., a successful manufacturer of onboard electrical systems, has celebrated a significant milestone in its commitment to highway safety by introducing the Eagle Eye Brake Monitor. Available for commercial transport trucks, buses, and motor coaches, the Eagle Eye Brake Monitor allows the operator to access critical information about the status of their vehicle’s brakes from the comfort of the driver’s seat. Although measurements relating to pad wear and corresponding stroke length are performed during mandatory inspections, mechanical conditions may change between maintenance intervals. Undetected malfunctions such as hung / non-activating brakes or a depleted stroke length can cause a considerable hazard for the unsuspecting driver as well as others on the road. According to figures reported by the CVSA (Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance), brake problems are implicated in 29.4 percent of all commercial truck related accidents
The Eagle Eye Brake Monitor compliments existing inspection programs by providing convenient readings of brake stroke, pad wear, and temperature. The information is delivered by way of an easy to read touch screen that mounts close at hand to the driver. A mere stroke of the finger provides precise data on brake wear, temperature range, and percentage of pad life. Up to 16 wheel ends can be tracked at a time.
The unit also provides a data logger that tracks mechanical changes and trends. This allows maintenance personnel to book out of service time on a “need to repair” basis. A memory card enables the downloading of system data allowing for convenient record keeping.
